Friend--I am speechless. I just heard a tape of a truly hateful speech made by an elected official.  It is astounding what they will say when they think we are not listening. Check it out at http://www.victoryfund.org/listening.  Equating the movement for LGBT equality with terrorism and toe cancer?  Come on.  It is so ridiculous that it would almost be humorous, except that she is deadly serious, and people are listening to her behind closed doors.  We will not let this one go by. Following is what Sally Kern said in the recorded "YOUTUBE" segment:

"The homosexual agenda is destroying this nation, okay?  It's just a fact.  Not everybody's lifestyle is, equal -- just like not all religions are, you know, equal.

The very fact that I'm talking to you like this today puts me in jeopardy, okay?

Uh, I'm not anti- ..... I'm not gay-bashing, but according to God's Word, that is not the right kind of lifestyle.  It has deadly consequences for those people involved in it.  They have more suicides;  they're more discouraged;  there's more illness;  their life spans are shorter;  you know, it's not a life style that is good for this nation.

Matter of fact, studies show that no society that has totally embraced homosexuality has lasted more than, you know, a few decades.  So it's the death nell to this country.  I honestly think it's the biggest threat that our nation has -- even more so than terrorism, or Islam, which I think is a big threat, K? Because what's happening now, they're going after, in schools, two year olds!

Do you know why they're trying to get early childhood education? They want to get our young children into the government school so they can indoctrinate them. I taught school for close to twenty years and we're not teaching facts and knowledge anymore, folks, we're teaching indoctrination, okay? And they're going after our young children, as young as two years of age, to try to teach them that the homosexual lifestyle is an acceptable lifestyle.

You know, gays are infiltrating city counsels.  Did you know Eureka Springs, any body been there to the Passion Play?  K, have you heard that the city counsel of Eureka Springs is now controlled by gays?  K?  There are some others, uh, Pittsburg, Pennsylvania;  Tacoma, Maryland;  Kensington, Maryland;  in Vermont, Oregon, West Palm Beach, Florida, a lot of other places in Florida.  What's happening? And they are winning elections . . .

One of the things I deal with in our legislature, I tried to introduce a bill last year that would notify parents, uh, schools had to let parents know what clubs their, uh, students were involved in, and the reason I did that bill was primarily this:   we had the gay/straight alliance coming into our schools.  Kids are getting involved in these groups, their lives are being ruined, the parents don't know about it, so I introduced a bill that said you have to notify all clubs and things and one of my collegues said, "Well, you know, we don't have a gay problem in my community, so that's why I'm voting against that bill."

Well you know what, to me that is so dumb.  If you got cancer or something in your little toe, do you say, "Well, you know, I'm just gonna forget about it 'cause the rest of me's fine?"  It spreads, K?   And this stuff is deadly and it's spreading and it will destroy, uh, our young people, it will destroy this nation."

Our own Sally Kern, an OKC member of the State House of Representatives, is perhaps getting more and much more widespread media exposure than she imagined.  Someone posted excerpts from a recent Kern speech on YouTube calling GLBT's "a bigger threat than terrorism" because we're fighting for a seat at the tables of politics and government.
 
Local TV station/channel 9 (10 on Cox Cable) is doing a story on her dirty political tactics tonight and no doubt more stories throughout the weekend.  Our female co-chair, Karen Parsons, is joining Cimarron Alliance Foundation's new executive director Rob Howard, in joint interviews with Channel 9 this evening. 
 
This flap hits just as the Sexuality and Spirituality Conference gets going (today and Saturday) in Edmond.  A local Baptist church had already announced plans to  leaflet and perhaps to demonstrate outside the Conference this weekend.
 
This is shaping up to be a great airing of dirty tactics by Oklahoma's Republican Party and fundamentalist extremists!  It's high time someone "called their hand" on dirty tactics and point out that their hate speech gives license to Hate Crimes Perpetrators.  Our community must call on the State House Leadership and the Oklahoma Republican Party Leadership to condemn Mrs. Kern and such hate-filled speech by anyone in state government.  This incident will hopefully inspire the House Leadership to reconsider its decision to kill proposed Hate Crimes legislation in committee earlier this year.

Lawmaker's anti-gay comments attract attention

An Oklahoma lawmaker's anti-gay comments are attracting national attention.

"The homosexual agenda is destroying this nation; it's just a fact," Rep. Sally Kern is heard saying on a YouTube video posted Friday.

In an exclusive interview with News9.com Kern (R-Oklahoma City) admits it is her voice on the recording and stands by her comments. She said she's just stating the facts on what she believes.

"I'm not gay bashing, but according to God's word that is not the right kind of lifestyle," she said. "It has deadly consequences."

The YouTube video was released by Washington-based political action committee The Gay and Lesbian Victory Fund. Their Web site reads: "While this speech is remarkable in its statements, it is not unique. For every bit of hateful rhetoric we hear, scores of other anti-gay statements go unchallenged."

Rep. Kern said the gay community, especially in Oklahoma, should not be surprised by her comments because she's made similar statements in the past.

Kern said the attention isn't necessarily wanted, but she says she won't shy away from her opinions and beliefs, either.

"What is wrong with me as an American exercising my free speech rights on a topic that is a very big issue today?" she said.

One of Kern's most controversial claims is that homosexuals and homosexuality is more of a threat to the United States than terrorism.

Kern said she doesn't know who taped the speech and when it was recorded.

"Shame on the person who didn't have the courage to come and say, 'I'm going to tape you and put it out on YouTube,'" she said.

Karen Parsons is a local activist. She said the majority of Oklahoman's don't care about sexual orientation.

"They care whether or not people are attacked," she said. "They care about whether or not their kids are bullied in school and it's this kind of speech, this kind of hate speech that gives the bullies the license to do it, and that's got to stop."

Parson's also says that Kern's comments are an embarrassment to Oklahoma.

"Hate speech has such negative consequences. The words really mean something." Parsons said. "She's a legislative leader and people pick up on her words and they take them to be the truth".[/size]
